Empowering people to own their development

It happened like this…

working with this great organisation who make such a difference every day, in support of the UK’s public health sector.

It’s all about people for them - so people skills are the ‘thing’, and the array of behavioural expertise needed across the organisation to effectively navigate the complex and skilled work they do.

They wanted to provide access to all the important skills, and give everyone access. They wanted live, non-live and blended options to suit the needs of individuals, including remote options for homeworkers.

Sam collaborated with them on the offering, which included:

  • Easy access to knowledge - through the customer’s LMS system to just-in-time bite size e-learning

  • Practical skills development - live practice based face-to-face and virtual workshops

  • Bespoke blends for both knowledge and skills - combining non live bite size learning and easy real case activities to accelerate real world integration ahead of practice-based and experiential workshops (face-to-face and virtual)

  • Reinforcement - recommended workplace activities for focused application and reinforcement, and a structure for review, as well as some manager guidance on supporting direct reports as they apply their learning in the real world

  • Bespoke - interventions for teams of people with a particular set of learning needs where collaborative and shared understanding linked directly to the outcomes needed

Learners were then able, in conjunction with development discussions with their line manager, make decisions about the right mechanism for them to learn.

The suite of learning available, with live workshops scheduled throughout the year included personal effectiveness skills like as giving and receiving feedback, and a range of vital communication and interaction skills for working with all manner of customers and stakeholders, across many levels of seniority - who need to be skilfully dealt with in their complex environment.
