This high street supermarket chain wanted to change the role of the team who were based nationally within their logistics centres, by upskilling each individual member, so they were set to work more closely with managers; to coach them and influence them on people issues and work related matters.
The organisation already had a successful development centre set up, a recruitment team experienced in facilitation and many experienced HR/L&D personnel.
What they needed was the design of skills-based development centre exercises to allow them to assess and develop individuals into their new roles. They wanted to do this by running group exercises coupled with individual feedback and identifying skills to be listed on personal development plans and areas built on for the future.
We consulted with the team manager and learning and development team and asked for details of their existing offering. Once we understood what we could build on, we set about designing the development centre exercises, feedback, scoring and development plan templates.
The designed activities spanned across all competencies for the new role; Emotional intelligence, Communication skills, Having difficult conversations, Coaching and Influencing.
A pilot group (beta test) meant a few adjustments to timings before the group embarked on their assessment centre journey.
A complete handover of all materials was completed.
